Lightstream Backyard Concert Series
This one's gonna be a hoot, y'all! Join us at Haute Spot in Cedar Park, TX on Saturday, October 23rd for a night celebrating Central Texas country music with two-step lessons by Double or Nothing, plus live performances from Josh T. Pearson, Jonathan Terrell and JD Clark & the Stuck in the Mud Band.
About Double or Nothing:
We teach what we call ‘Austin Honky-Tonk Two-Step’ and like any regional dialect, we have a specific swagger & style here in our local haunts. This ain’t no fussy ballroom dancin’, we’re talkin’ dancehalls, dive bars, and gravel lots. Our number one goal is to get y’all to love two-step as we do, to have a blast, and if we do say so ourselves, look pretty dang cool in the process. In our experience, the absolute best way to learn is by doing. We teach with a focus on the feel of the dance, and less on counting steps & formal dance patterns.
About Josh T. Pearson:
Texas singer and songwriter Josh T. Pearson is best known as the frontman for the short-lived cult indie roots band Lift to Experience, who issued a self-titled EP in 1997, a single, and a sole double album, The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads (which is the stuff of underground legend), in 2001 before splitting. Pearson spent the next decade touring in the U.S. and abroad, including appearing as an invited guest at several All Tomorrow's Parties festivals. Recordings under his own name include an official live bootleg entitled To Hull and Back recorded in the U.K., a live DVD single, and one side of a single he split with Australia's Dirty Three; his half is a stellar version of Hank Williams' "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry."
Pearson returned in 2018 with his sophomore solo album, The Straight Hits!, a set of ten tracks, each of which featured the word "Straight" (or "Straits") in its title. Released via Mute once again, the record was a departure from the sound of its predecessor and focused on more straightforward song structures, replacing stripped-back acoustics with a more equipped "band feel."
About Jonathan Terrell:
Austin, TX singer-songwriter proves bad boy with a heart of gold with latest LP release, Westward. Born in a singlewide trailer deep in the pines of East Texas to a family of ex-religious cult musicians, Terrell has been engulfed in a life of music since birth. After migrating to Austin in 2006, he anchored himself firmly in the city's infamous music scene as a beloved country and folk songwriter, trailing close to his heroes Kris Kristofferson and Townes Van Zandt. His sweaty and electric live shows spin honky tonk dance floors and quickly whip heads around to reveal him as a bold lyricist and explosive frontman with “Springsteenian” prowess.
About JD Clark and the Stuck in the Mud Band:
JD's style strays away from the watered down, pop-country that we're currently hearing on the radio and is more reminiscent of our country favorites from the 90's. With odes to his home state of Texas, catching up on memories of past love, and a couple drinking tunes, his songs have a story to tell.
The Stuck in the Mud Band is comprised of some of the hardest working musicians in Austin, including Doug Walseth on lead guitar and lap steel, Vince Delgado on bass, and Felipe Granados on drums. The band captures their live show, honky tonk energy on their self-titled debut release.
